Cetinkaya Cinar 1 Apoel 4
There was only one match on Sunday and it was touch and go whether this match would go ahead after the continuing snow downpour that had settled on the astro turf at Wadham Lodge.
There was plenty of fans from both sides even the General Secretary of the League Michael Yiakoumi was present. The conditions were made for a feast of football and with the possibility of a surprise result. The match went ahead 45 minutes late and with lots of free flowing football but it was Cinar who adapted better to the snowy conditions and took the lead on 16 minutes. Volkan Altinok squeezing the ball past the Apoel keeper Darren Behcet on his second attempt. There were more chances, especially one long distance shot from Volkan that brought off a brilliant save from the Apoel keeper. Cinar were looking the stronger team, but the first half ended 1-0.
In the second half the conditions worsened with the ball not movely as fluently. Basic errors were being made with Cinar not able to clear under pressure and conceding in the 57th and 59th minutes with the Apoel goals coming from Vas then defender Phil Daniels. Apoel pressed on and added a third in the 65th minute with sub Mark Doyle. Cinar went all out and pushed players forward, but were unable to take their chances and were caught out at the back in stoppage time again with a fine strike from Mark Doyle. The game finished 4-1 to Apoel who deservedly took the 3 points, but probably flattered by the scoreline. Apoel now go back on top one point ahead of Tripimeni.
