HARINGEY COMMUNITIES PULLING TOGETHER

On Saturday 2nd November a successful Open Day was organised by the nine Haringey BME Providers – named below – of Housing Related Support (HRS) Services in conjunction with Camlee Voisin-Baptiste, Commissioning Officer, Haringey Council.

 Each organisation provided both cultural and modern entertainment and, in particular, their cultural food – all of which was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.  The purpose of the event was also to publicise the services of these providers.

The Mayor of Haringey, Cllr. Sheila Peacock opened the event officially, emphasizing the importance of each provider’s services and of working together in harmony to exchange ideas.

Mustafa Ibrahim, Head of Commissioned Services and Claire Drummond, Commissioning Manager, also addressed those present and emphasised that HRS Is support that helps vulnerable residents improve their quality of life and wellbeing by enabling them to live as independently as possible in their community.

John Constantinou, Service Manager of the Cypriot Elderly & Disabled Group at the Cypriot Community Centre, acted as the Master of Ceremonies on behalf of the providers who are as follows:-

Cypriot Community Centre, Cypriot Elderly & Disabled Group, Turkish Cypriot Women’s Project, Chinese Community Centre,  Kurdish Advice Centre, Kurdish Community Centre, Embrace UK (Ethiopian & other East African countries), Somali Community & Cultural Assoc., PEEC (Polish) Family Centre.

Children representing the organisations above welcomed everyone in their respective community languages.
