Police on Monday were trying to ascertain the identity of a man whose headless body was pulled out of the sea off the coast of Mount Athos in northern Greece.
A boatman alerted authorities on Sunday after finding the body of a man dressed in a pair of black swimming trunks floating off the coast the monastic community on the Mount Athos peninsula. His head and upper limbs had been severed.
A coroner is examining the body to determine the exact cause of death, which investigators hope may shed more light on the man’s identity.
