Former Interior Minister Dinos Michaelides was taken to the intensive care unit of Nicosia General Hospital Wednesday after complaining of illness following a Limassol court’s ruling that an international arrest warrant against him should be executed.
His lawyers failed in a bid to have the warrant suspended until a Supreme Court appeal on August 26.
He was first taken to a private Limassol clinic and then to Nicosia prison where he was examined by a prison doctor who ordered he be taken to the ICU where an angiogram was carried out. He was found to be in good health. Sources say he should leave the hospital Thursday.
The warrant was issued by Greek authorities in regard to a money laundering case against former Greek minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos. A similar warrant has been issued against Michaelides’ son Michalis and he will hear on September 4 whether or not it will be executed.
