A woman’s flip-flop caught under her car’s accelerator pedal, causing her to crash into a kebab shop window injuring several people, a court has heard.
Navlet Anderson denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Several people were hurt including Stephen Brothworth who suffered fractures to his lower leg, a punctured lung and nine fractured ribs.
The crash happened at the Antalya kebab shop on Marsh Lane, Bristol, in April.
The prosecution has alleged 50-year-old Ms Anderson suffered a “red mist moment” in revenge for an earlier altercation in which she headbutted a teenage girl – an offence to which Ms Anderson has already pleaded guilty.
‘I hate you all’
In her defence, she told the court a flip-flop she was wearing at the time got caught between the accelerator pedal and the floor of the car.
The court was told this caused the car to jerk towards the Antalya kebab shop injuring the victims.
In cross examination it was alleged she had steered at the teenage girl, nearly running her over – which Ms Anderson denied.
The prosecution also told the court an eyewitness had heard her say “I’ll run you all over”, “I hate you all” and “I’ll mow you all down”.
The court was shown CCTV footage of Ms Anderson in the car which was seen being driven into the shop before being reversed out and going forward several times on 28 April.
Ms Anderson, of Avonvale Road, Barton Hill, also denies a charge of dangerous driving.
