A stretch of the North Circular that runs near Walthamstow has the worst traffic fumes of any road in London, reports the national Guardian.
A Freedom of Information request from action group Clean Air London to TfL allegedly revealed that a section of the A406 which passes through the area ranked highest for four of the five most dangerous air pollutants.
They include benzene, nitrogen oxides and particles of unburned carbon.
The newspaper reports that four of London’s five worst roads for air pollution pass through some of the poorest areas of east London, including the A13 in Tower Hamlets and the Dartford crossing.
Air pollution created by vehicles is linked to strokes, heart and respiratory diseases as well as some cancers and asthma.
