FIRST MAJOR TROPHY FOR ZEN CHARALAMBOUS

It was a day for lots of high scores. The reason for this was due to the length of the two golf courses at Essendon Golf Club. The tees were so far forward that some were even shorter than the ladies tees which made the courses very short and very easy. However for Zen Charalambous it will be a day  he will never forget. He played two magnificent rounds of golf scoring 37 points in the morning round and a fantastic 44 points in the afternoon round for a total of 81 points. It was enough to to win his first major trophy on count back from the morning leaders Lakis Chrysostomou and Steve Ferris who also had a total of 81 points.

Zen has been a member of the Cypriot Golf Society since 1996 and was over the moon winning his first major after so many years. He recalls: Today everything was working, my driving was very long and in the fairway, my irons found the greens consistently and my putting was excellent. In fact I was so relax and with the encouragement I was getting from my playing partners helped me tremendously and I thank them for that. He also thanked the Captain and the committee for the hard work in organising events.

The Challenge Shield was held on Thursday 16th May at Essendon Golf Club. Sixty members of the Cypriot Golf Society took part in the competition over two rounds of golf. The Challenge Shield was sponsored by Dimitri Kazitti and 4 Front Furniture, D2 Stonehills Business Park, Harbet Road, London N18 3QP. Telephone 020 8803 6446. Website: www.4ff.co.uk.

The captain’s team teed off first. Playing with Andrew Savva were Dimitri Kazitti, Tony Philippou and Tony Koureas (Photo below). The Captains charity sweepstakes raised £475.00 plus a £200.00 donation from Michael Mathews. The winner of the sweepstakes was none other than the Captain’s brother Marios Savva who won a fourball voucher donated by Essendon GC.
