Health Minister Petros Petrides has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the sudden death of a 13-year-old girl from the capital district area that shocked the island.
Ioanna Demetriou lost consciousness just before midnight yesterday at her home and her parents rushed her to the emergency unit at Nicosia General Hospital.
Despite efforts by doctors to resuscitate her, she was proclaimed dead and a post mortem examination is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.
The girl had been on antibiotics since Thursday for pharyngitis symptoms, her shocked parents have said.
