KOPA Challenge Cup
Quarter Final
Cyprus Youth 2 Apoel 0
A great win for Cyprus Youth who are third in the second division versus Apoel last week’s LFA Cup winners who also came runners up in the first division. Thats what the cup is about a great story.
Apoel started brightly against second division KLN, and it soon became a good open game in difficult conditions on rainy Thursday night at Brimsdown Stadium. After 6 weeks out and only his second game back KLN captain Rio Bryan Edwards broke the deadlock when he rose highest to head home from an Adam McKinnon free kick on the 40th minute.
Second half the game opened up and became end to end with Apoel pushing for an equaliser and pilling on the pressure. KLN then broke away on the 65th minute with Adam picking the ball up again and chipping forward to veteran striker Jayson Sinclair who calmly slotted home after a defensive mix up at the back for apoel.
Apoel piled forward and hit the post soon after while KLN looked dangerous on the counter. On the 85th minute an Apoel striker got sent off for lashing out at KLN goalkeeper Maxwell Papacosta however the game soon resumed and Apoel again threw men forward trying to get something out of the game however KLN stood strong and even missed a last minute one on one.
Cyprus Youth now go on to play second division champions Livadia in the semi final.
