Cyprus has become a victim of incidental damage caused to its economy by the debt crisis in Greece, spokesman for the Cypriot government Stefanos Stefanou said.
He said that Cyprus was compelled to apply to the mechanisms of the EU financial support in June just for the sake of the recapitalisation of the country’s banking sector.
According to Stefanou, before Cyprus had to ask the EU for assistance the situation with taxes and the state budget in the country was much better than in many other EU member-states and its financial rates higher than average European ones.
