A BOTCHED robbery took place in Anthoupolis thursday during the early hours when a safe containing €8,500 from a supermarket was stolen and later recovered by police.
A police spokesman said the manager of the supermarket reported to police at around 3.30am that the store’s alarm system had sounded.
“After receiving the call, members of the police arrived on the scene and found that burglars had entered the supermarket and removed a safe containing €8,500 which was screwed to the floor,” the spokesman said.
A witness reported to police that a pick-up truck was seen leaving the scene with a safe being dragged behind with a wire. Police searched the surrounding area and found both the wire and the safe. “Police pursued the vehicle without success but it was later found on a side road in the village of Paliometoho,” he said. Police are continuing their search for the burglars
